1: Introduction
Political parties aren’t just elected officials, they’re often groups that influence public policy on behalf of their citizens through election campaigns, and sometimes even govern as part of an electoral body.
As with any type of group who has their own interests to serve them, these political organizations have interest groups, agendas, and leaders depending on the type of party they belong to. However, not all political organizations follow uniform patterns. In fact, much like organized crime organizations vary for different purposes or reasons, so do political parties.
There are four main political parties in most Islamic countries, namely Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Yemen, Zambia and Algeria, but there’s also more than 50 smaller parties in those same countries. There are even larger number or smaller parties that participate in other governmental bodies like the government or parliament.
These political parties can be majorly elected or non-elected in elections organized by the national and provincial authorities, though there are some local governments that have non-elected or appointed political parties. Many of these parties have become increasingly active during the last couple decades, and now there are around 150-200 small and medium sized political parties in nearly every country.
An estimated 1 billion people across Muslim nations are politically engaged. All of this activity is done to further their agenda and help them achieve what they want and need in order to run for office. While it’s not necessarily what a person needs, it usually does get done and if not done is done and gone. Some parties may be quite large and have a large following, while others may be relatively new and small and may have limited resources.
2: Why Are Political Parties Important in Politics For More People To Understand
While there’s a multitude of people who are involved in politics, each individual is interested in pursuing one particular side or another. That same logic should apply to political party groups in which they will work towards something. Each party usually wants to be heard and they also want good outcomes. From a broad perspective, then, they have to make decisions that are beneficial to them and their communities. When people who don’t see eye-to-eye get to know each other face to face and talk, there’s always going to be a problem. No two sides are exactly the same.
It is common knowledge that politicians don’t like bad publicity and many politicians won’t stand up for anything that goes against their beliefs. If everyone thinks alike, they won’t be able to get things done and they wouldn’t get any help.
Politicians need to make decisions on how to solve problems. With groups like PPP, PMLN, PTI, ANP, MNM, etc., they want to go where the majority of people feel they should go not just take the path of least resistance. They believe that when they’re in charge you should make decisions and not let anyone force down your ideas as long as they’re fair for everyone. Politics isn’t about being right all of the time, it’s about making sure there are enough people that agree with them.
Political parties in Pakistan are very important for society because both national and provincial governments can hold them accountable to everyone. A successful leader can bring together all of the citizens of Islamabad to demand change.
At times, you don’t always hear good news from politicians, but it is necessary. Everyone must have healthy debates as well. We have a government that is elected by the people, who are paid for speaking out and voting to get out of their seats.
But still we should learn from our mistakes. In addition to government, even Parliament can act and make suggestions, especially on a regular basis. Our politicians know it and they need to listen to us. One way leaders improve by learning from their followers, is by telling stories.
This helps to keep them in check and makes them realize there are no hard and fast rules. So, if they are not making decisions, it can be done in a different form and they can choose, what they want. By doing this, they can learn and make changes without creating panic. In the end, you can end up with the best leadership possible.
3: Types of Political Parties
Political parties can have several forms, depending on the country that they exist. They need to meet certain requirements and standards that the laws set for each party that exists in it. Below are three main political parties in Pakistan and why they fit into the category.
Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDM)
The PDM is a newly formed alliance of seven political coalitions, which represent the various political forces of Pakistan including opposition movement, civil society, political parties, youth movements, trade unionists, socialists, Islamists, social media activists, and religious associations, as well as independent candidates.
It was born in 2015 after years of struggle and turmoil to give its members a voice and representation in Parliament. In October 2020, the PDM launched its platform to contest the upcoming general elections including federal and provincial assemblies. The objective of the party is to ensure equal rights, social justice, accountability, accountability, equality and transparency of all.
The PM-led coalition consists of six political parties, including Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Pakistan (JUI-P), Jamiat Ahsaaf Pakistan (JAP), Jamaat-e Wal-Jamaat, and MQM.
Its goal is to improve the human condition and eliminate poverty and inequality. Currently, PDM supports Prime Minister Imran Khan and Vice President Asif Ali Zardari. Their platforms include mass rallies, negotiations, dialogue and public statements. Also they seek accountability for the state and all those who misgovern and oppress the poor.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
BJP is one of India’s largest regional political parties, constituting the ruling coalition of Bharatiya Jai Shakti Party (BJP). The BSP’s vision is “Harmony And Justice” for humanity.
It seeks to lead development in India through democracy with socialism. BJP believes the current governance structure does not provide solutions. Even though BJP is competing against the Congress’s government, it is facing strong opposition from the opposition. So far the opposition is calling them a failure as they cannot fix the problem.
The ruling Hindu-nationalist party Shiv Sena is one among the list of opposition parties; they were included due to their anti-Cultural Revolution policies and violent protests in 2014 and 2016.
In February 2017, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took over the mantle role and started his party, which means he takes back the reins of leadership. He promised change and promises economic success and prosperity.
National Conference (NC)
National Conference was founded in 1921 at Lahore, Pakistan by Muhammad Iqbal. It was founded under the name of British Indian Association, later renamed National Democratic Party, NCP. Initially it was named National Awami Party before merging with Independent Muslim League-Quaid, then again renamed National Democratic Alliance (MDA).
Today, NC represents Pakistan’s largest democratic political organization, with membership of over half a million people—the largest number of voters since Pakistan introduced universal suffrage in 1947 and the highest proportion of voter turnout since 1955. National Conference believes in freedom, equal rights and equal opportunities for all.
National Party (NP)
formed on March 12, 1952, is Pakistan’s oldest political party, a left-wing political entity established in 1952 under the Central Prosecution Service Act as Nawanshahabadiya Samaj Party. It became the official member of Punjab Government after the formation of Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s Pakistan, founded on July 11, 1922. This party aims to unite all Pakistani Muslims under Islam as a single community through political cooperation and welfare for all.
Through a popular slogan “Mukhyarz Yaro Chotchhi”, this party promotes unity and peace within the Nation of Islam (NOI). The first election was held on December 28, 1954. A total of 45 seats—including five nominated unopposed—were contested.
On January 9, 1957, National Party merged with Quaid-Azam’s G-14 party to form the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid. After a short war it merged again with the Pakistan Socialist Party to create Pakistan Socialist Party (PSP). Since 1978, the Pakistan Movement has been trying to establish a true Islamic Pakistan.
